Depending on the pH - salt will be in the water layer, oil will be with the chloroform. So whatever you originally started with, morphine salt or base, if the pH hasn't changed it should be obvious. I haven't done this but it sounds like it should/will be a salt after addition of the acetate.

Swim is trying to understand the science part ... The part were you precipitate the morphine base at ph 8-9 ...

Sooooo the calcium hydroxide (lime) is a strong base (12.4 ph) high pH ; with the opium plant&alkaloids latex water solution mixture ..

... So swim is guessing that adding a water + NH4Cl solution to the strong base (lime) opium mixture will lower the pH


Lower the pH to 8-9
Sit a bit in cool temp and patience to get precipitated morphine base, huh



Wouldn't ammonia gas vapors would emerge from the CaOH and the NH4Cl ??

So that makes the heroin acetic salt soluble in water because of the acidic solution...
The heroin is in a salt form in the polar water acidic solution...

The chloroform is considered a non-polar solvent.

There's no way the acidic salt of heroin in acidic solution is going into the non polar solvent (chloroform)

??? The salt of heroin (not freebase) is soluble in the acidic water solution. No way the NonPolar chloroform solvent (red greasy heavier layer on bottom) had extracted the heroin acetic salt because it has not been based (high pH) to freebase yet???

QUESTION ⁉️
? The chloroform is to wash the acidic heroin impurities away???

...can't extract an alkaloids salt (acetic) form in an acidic solution with a non polar solvent (chloroform TriChloroMethane ) ...
