Question Platinum Dioxide, Catalytic Transfer Hydrogenation?

Usually this is done with platinum on carbon, but I'm wondering if it can be done with homemade platinum dioxide, as well as a formate salt. Preferably potassium formate.

Platinum oxide or plain platinium metal is traditionaly used but im lacking much experience here too, there is also pd/c (paladium) which can be used too, but these are expensive catalysts, lots of the new thc analogues as i heard come from this type of reaction now.

I believe there could be larger scale operations using precious metal catalysts, but from reading about the Netherlands, they use amalgam and the leuckart generally.

I know there are a couple forms, like platinum dioxide, palladium black, both of those metals on carbon, etc.

Probably, but as said the catalyst is expensive on larger scale kilograms pllatinium arent cheap or easy buyable, also some goes used in the synthesis so its not one time buy, while the other reactions offer more cheap but more of a crude synthesis i woud say.

I believe I read that clandestine groups sometimes recycle the catalyst, so it could make sense over enough time to invest in precious metals.

Honestly, the leuckart is the way to go for medium to larger scale imo, especially if wanting amphetamine/MDA and not meth or mdma.

But I want to know how precious metal catalysts might be used.

My current research says they don't perform well when homemade.

Stereoselctive precisous metal catalysts are more intrested of in this reaction, espesialy for making meth.

Oh absolutely. There doesn't appear to be larger scale assymetric reductions, at least in the black market.

Seems the trend is to make racemic, separate enantiomers then convert the L meth back to p2p, and reduce that, then repeat.
