I was exploring dextropropoxyphene, out of curiosity, and the synthesis of it made me extremely curious if it could be adapted to produce isomethadone, but likely with a different ester than acetyl or propionyl.

Look at the synthesis part. It looks extremely similar to isomethadone up until the grignard. Im wondering if one substitutes the benzyl magnesium bromide with phenyl magnesium bromide, if isomethadone would be produced. Then one could acylate it with acetyl anhydride or chloride, or whatever you prefer, and you are good to go.
Thoughts? According to a well known internet user, Duchess Von D, can find the person on twitter/reddit, they say isomethadone is very euphoric, and if true, I imagine separating the enantiomer to just the levo enantiomer would be delightful.
